Dr Richard Rahdon
Dr Richard Rahdon is a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS). This is important, because in Australia any doctor with a medical degree can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon. Dr Rahdon was admitted to the Royal Australian College of Surgeons after 17 years of training. He then undertook further fellowship training in plastic and reconstructive surgery in Oxford, UK and returned to Australia after further experience with a highly respected cosmetic surgeon in London. This means he has the qualifications and experience that you can trust.
To become a plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgeon Richard Rahdon has achieved the following:
- He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1996 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees. Before graduating, he spent a year in Oxford, UK, completing a research degree, a Bachelor of Medical Science. (His research was in transplantation immunology at The Nuffield Department of Surgery at the University of Oxford.) His intern and resident years were spent at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne.
- Richard then spent two years as a medical officer in the Royal Australian Air Force. Richard topped his officer training and represented Australia at the 85th Anniversary of the Gallipoli Landings in Turkey. In 2000, Richard served in the Peace Monitoring Group in Bougainville and was appointed senior medical officer for RAAF Base East Sale. (which made him the doctor for the airforce aerobatic team The Roulettes!)
- Richard began his general surgical training the following year. He was based at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, with rotations in Shepparton, Ballarat and Geelong. He passed his Fellowship exams in general surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2003.
- Richard was the top candidate in Australia to be accepted onto the plastic surgery training program in 2004. He trained in Adelaide with rotations through the Womens’ and Childrens’ Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and The Royal Adelaide Hospital.
- In 2006, Richard passed his fellowship exams in plastic and reconstructive surgery and in 2007 he was appointed senior plastic surgery fellow at The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, UK. After 12 months he was made a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon and he stayed in this post until January 2009.
- In 2009 Richard spent time in London, learning new techniques from Jan Stanek, a highly respected cosmetic surgeon who regularly appears regularly on the “Ten Years Younger” television program in England.
- Richard returned to Australia with his family in 2009 and set up practice at St John of God Hospital, The Geelong Private Hospital and The Geelong Base Hospital.
