Breast Lift
A breast lift or Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure aimed at lifting and reshaping sagging breasts to a rejuvenated shape and contour. It also places your nipples in a higher, more youthful position. As part of the ageing process or after breastfeeding or weight loss, your breasts will often droop and lose their youthful appearance.
Mastopexy lifts and re-suspends the breasts and helps improve your overall appearance and self-esteem. It is an operation for ladies who are happy with their breast size, but unhappy with their shape in terms of sagging or drooping.
If there is enough breast tissue left, then it is possible to reshape it, remove excess skin and produce a higher, firmer breast. If there is little breast tissue, an implant can usually be placed during the lift procedure.
It is not uncommon to seek a breast enhancement and be advised at the time of consultation that a skin tightening or lifting as well as an implant will be needed to achieve the desirable result.
Am I a Suitable Candidate for a Breast Lift?
Whether or not you are a suitable candidate for a breast lift is for our surgeon Mr Rahdon and you to discuss. We undertake a complete analysis of your medical history as well as a thorough clinical consultation. You typically need to be in a healthy weight range and in good health to be considered for surgery.
Mastopexy Surgery
The mastopexy procedure may be performed under either local anesthetic with intravenous sedation or general anesthetic and generally takes about 2 hours. The average length of stay in hospital is 1-2 days.
There are different ways the operation can be carried out depending on a number of individual factors including the starting shape and size of the breast. The scars are usually in the same place i.e. around the nipple, vertically down to the fold underneath the breast, and sometimes in the fold beneath the breast. Whenever possible, we utilise the latest “short scar” techniques, which avoid scars on the underside of the breast.
The operation is typically not very painful and you will be given strong painkillers during your stay in hospital to minimise any discomfort. We will also give you tablets to take home with you to keep you comfortable.
What is the Recovery Time following Surgery?
You may experience some bruising and swelling which may last several weeks and you will need to wear a firm sports bra for 6 weeks following surgery. You can be back to work for light duties in about 2 weeks but to allow for proper healing, you should avoid excessive exercise for 6 weeks.
The scars will undergo colour and texture changes over a period usually varying from 6 months to 2 years.
What are the Potential Risks and Complications?
Complications are uncommon, however, during your initial consultation Mr Rahdon will cover with you in detail the risks and complications associated with the surgery. Should you choose to proceed, we will again explain any risks as part of the consenting process. You must understand that our highly qualified and experienced surgeon, Mr Rahdon, will not perform any cosmetic procedure unless he believes that the benefits significantly outweigh the risks for you.
The vast majority of women are very happy with their breast lift and often say that the “wish they had had the operation sooner!”. Call us today on (03) 5215 1070 to organise a consultation with our expert surgeon Mr Rahdon or book an appointment by completing our online form.
