Breast Implants

Breast augmentation, according to Dr Richard Rahdon,  is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures available today. It improves the shape and enhances the size of women’s breasts using breast implants. Breast implants will also correct slight sagging of the breast and can increase breast firmness. A similar procedure can be used to recreate a breast after mastectomy.

For many women attractive breasts are an important part of their self-image. Every woman deserves to feel good about themselves and breast implants can be an amazingly positive and often life transforming procedure.

If you feel that your breasts are too small or underdeveloped, out of proportion to your body, unequal in size or if they have decreased in size or emptied and sagged after having children, then breast augmentation may be the solution for you.

Below are the 6 most important choices you will need to make when choosing the right implant for you:

  1. Saline filled or cohesive silicone gel filled implants
  2. Textured surface or smooth implants
  3. Round or teardrop (anatomical) shaped implants
  4. Placement of the implants in front or behind the pectoral muscle
  5. Approach under the breast, through the armpit or around the areola
  6. The size of the implant including volume, projection, height and width

Are you a Suitable Candidate for Breast Implants?
A consultation with our expert surgeon Mr Rahdon is your first step when considering breast implants. You should frankly discuss your goals and expectations including communicating the size you want your breasts to be, as well as the shape of a breast you find attractive, how much cleavage you want to have and input on nipple position. If you are a suitable candidate for breast augmentation, during your consultation Mr Rahdon will discuss with you the wide choice of implants available, the size of implant you would like and help you decide the most appropriate implant for you.

Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation or breast implants have undergone significant refinement and improvement in recent years. Improved Implants and refined techniques have resulted in more reliable and aesthetically ideal breast augmentation results as well as smoother surgical course, a lower incidence of complications, a shorter hospital stay and an earlier return to normal work and activity.

The operation takes about 1½ hours and is performed under general anesthesia. It is usually done as day surgery but sometimes you need to stay one night in hospital.

What is the Recovery Time following Surgery?
You will be able to wear a soft bra after the operation, return to vigorous exercise after a few weeks and wear anything you like after just 4 weeks! As you will be a little sore for the first few days after surgery, you will most likely need to take a week’s leave from work. There may be a small amount of bruising and swelling which may last several weeks, however, any discomfort can be managed with the tablets prescribed by Mr Rahdon.

The most common scar is in the crease under your breast, but scars can be in the underarm or around the edge of the nipple. The scars will undergo a natural maturation process involving a series of colour and texture changes over a period usually varying from 6 months to 2 years.

What are the Potential Risks and Complications?
Complications are uncommon for breast implant surgery. During your initial consultation Mr Rahdon will cover with you in detail the risks and complications associated with the surgery. Should you choose to proceed with surgery, we will again explain any risks as part of the consenting process.

We ensure that risks are kept to a complete minimum with with the help of selecting suitable patients as well as the selection of the appropriate procedure for your specific requirements. You should also understand that our highly qualified and experienced surgeon, Mr Rahdon, will not perform any cosmetic procedure unless he believes that the benefits significantly outweigh the risks for you.
